ANSWERS

HAIR REMOVAL

#1: What causes unwanted hair?

Excess and unwanted hair is a common problem. Women frequently experience this condition on the face, especially the upper lip or eyebrow area, at the bikini line, under their arms or on their legs. Men often have unwanted hair on their back or chest, between their eyebrows or on other parts of their face. In many cases excessive hair growth runs in families. Hormones also play a role. Some people experience unwanted or excess hair from the time they reach puberty; others find it to be a condition that gets worse with age. Some women experience additional hair growth during pregnancy or menopause.

#2: How is unwanted hair treated?

Conventional treatments include shaving, plucking, waxing and depilatory creams. These methods provide temporary fixes that are often inconvenient, messy and irritating for the skin. The LightSheerTM is rapidly changing hair removal treatment, providing gentle, non-invasive, long-lasting solutions to unwanted hair on any body area.

#3: What happens during a LightSheer treatment?

Before each session begins, system settings are computer-customized according to skin color and type and the area of the body being treated. Treatment begins by trimming away any hair above the surface of the skin and then conducting test spots to determine the patient's skin response to different device settings. Next, a cold gel (similar to ultrasound gel) is spread over the treatment area. This helps keep the skin cool and focus the light treatment. Patients wear special eyewear to protect the eyes from the bright light. The device handpiece is moved over the treatment area, while light-based energy is emitted in highly controlled flashes or pulses. This heats up the hair, significantly damaging the regrowth potential of the follicle. When the gel is removed, much of the hair is wiped off with it. Additional hair will shed over the next week or two.

#4: How long do treatments last? How many will I need?

Sessions can last from a few minutes to more than an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. The number of treatments required depends on several factors related to specific skin types and color, thickness and density of hair. Several treatments are necessary to achieve the best results. Consult your technician for an estimate of the necessary number of treatments.

#5: How much time is there between sessions?

Subsequent sessions are scheduled when the hair begins to regrow. The timing for this can range from four to eight weeks, depending on hair type and the part of the body being treated. On average, appointments are scheduled four to six weeks apart.

#6: Are light treatments safe for all skin types?

Yes, this technology can be used to treat unwanted hair on all skin types, including dark-skinned individuals such as those of African, Hispanic or Asian descent, as well as those patients with tanned skin.

#7: Can all hair be treated?

Yes, treatments are customized according to hair color, texture and location. Any hair with at least some pigment can be treated. White, grey and blonde hair can only be treated with electrolysis.

#8: What does the treatment feel like?

Most people tolerate the treatments very well. Discomfort is often described as a slight tingling or a pinch similar to the snap of a rubber band. Topical anesthesia can be used when treating particularly sensitive areas of the body.

#9: Are there any possible side effects?

The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from client to client depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type. Side effects, if any, are usually minor. There may be some redness and swelling around the treated hair follicles; this is a desired clinical result indicating that the follicle has responded to treatment. This reaction typically disappears within hours. Most people return to normal activity right away. On rare occasions, some blistering may occur, but this typically resolves quickly. The skin can become darker or lighter following treatment, but will generally return to normal within a few weeks. Limiting sun exposure before and after each treatment will minimize the risk of complications.

#10: What kind of results should I expect? Does this technology really remove hair long-term?

Yes. Scientific studies show that the use of targeted, light-based energy actually damages or destroys hair follicles at the cellular level. A permanent reduction in the number of regrowing hairs is usually achieved following each treatment.

#11: Is the LightSheer treatment FDA-cleared? Is it safe?

Yes, the LightSheer Laser treatment is FDA-cleared for the treatment of unwanted hair. The procedure has unparalleled safety records. Side effects are rare and generally well-tolerated.

VASCULAR BLEMISH REMOVAL

#1: What is Electrocuagulation?

The process of removing dilated capillaries by coagulating blood (transforming a fluid matter into a solid matter) using heat produced by an electric current.

#2: What is a dilated capillary?

Over time, due to several factors, capillary walls may lose their elasticity and become permanently enlarged and visible to the eye.

#3: What causes capillary dilation?

Heredity:

Affects 15% of population, mostly fair skin people

External Skin Aggression: Sun exposure, Excessive heat (sauna), Injuries, Aggressive comedone extraction, Retinol-A (external use), Aging and Surgery
Hormonal: Women are more prone to developing telengiectasia through pregnancy and menopause
Health Problems: High blood pressure, Chronic hepatitis, Rosacea, Scleroderma – Lupus, Alcoholism
Medication: Oral contraceptives, some medication may cause vasodilation and affect capillaries.
Climate: Drastic and rapid change of temperature
Other: Hot and spicy food

Permanently dilated dermal capillaries become visible at the surface of the skin. They are classified according to their shape and size. (Telangiectasia, Spider angioma, Ruby point and Couperose)

#4: How long is the healing process?

Healing and generation rapidly occur within 3 to 14 days revealing beautiful unblemished and even-toned skin. There may be slight scabbing that is barely noticeable.

#5: What is the duration of the treatment?

The electrocuagulation treatment takes approximately 15 minutes, depending on the size and depth of the dilated capillary. A few sessions may be required to achieve best results.

LESION REMOVAL

#1: How does the CryoProbe work?

The technological principle of the CryoProbe is based on applying fluid N2O gas on the tissue to be treated. The gas will partially be absorbed by the skin and will expand on and in the skin. The Nitrous gas will freeze the damaged skin cells and will regenerate new healthy cells.

#2: What is the duration of the treatment?

The CryoProbe is a very powerful treatment, allowing the technician to work with great accuracy. The duration of the treatment will depend on the surface and depth of the tissue to be treated. It cannot be determined in advance. Also, a few touch-up treatments may be required for optimum results.

#3: What should be expected after the treatment?

Almost immediately after the treatment the client may experience a stinging sensation, itchiness, and redness to the area. Polysporen is applied to soothe the tissue. The area may turn dark brown or black (3-5 times darker than it’s original colour) and can last 3 to 6 weeks depending on the clients skin colour, age and amount of freezing done. There is a slight possibility that a blister occurs upon completion of the treatment.

FACIAL THERAPY

#1: Who can benefit?

Men and women of any skin type or colour. Anyone with aging, congested, flaky, dry, devitalized, thickened, blemished, dull and sun damaged skin will be rejuvenated and refreshed. Blotchiness, uneven skin tones and texture will also be improved.

#2: What body areas can be treated?

Most common areas of treatment are the face, neck, chest, shoulders, back, hands, knees and elbows.

#3: How many treatments will I need?

This treatment is meant to be progressive not aggressive. Generally, results are more noticeable after the third treatment. Although, after the first session the skin will appear fresher, cleaner, smoother, and softer for some clients. Usually treatments are preformed every 7 – 10 days or every two weeks for a series of 6.

#4: How long does each treatment take?

The actual treatment usually takes 15-40 minutes, depending on the body area. We also provide a 45 minute facial treatment with soothing mask. The treatment is applied to clean skin. After, a moisturizing cream with sun block is applied.

#5: Any side effects?

Since there is minimal discomfort and no healing time, one can resume normal activities immediately after a treatment. You may experience a slight tingling, and after the skin may feel tighter, as if exposed to the wind or sun. Your skin may appear slightly flushed. This generally fades in 12-24 hours.

MEDICAL SERVICES

#1: What is BOTOX Cosmetic?

BOTOX Cosmetic is the trademark of Botulinum Toxin Type A, a purified toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In large amounts, this toxin blocks the impulses to muscles, causing a form of paralysis called Botulism. By using extremely small doses of BOTOX Cosmetic, injected directly into a specific muscle, only the action of that muscle will be paralyzed. Therefore, the problems that muscle cause, like twitch spasm or frown lines, will be stopped.

#2: Where is the BOTOX Cosmetic injected?

The frown line between the eyebrows is caused by the action of a muscle called the corrugator. Dr. Tadros injects BOTOX Cosmetic directly into this muscle and this stops your ability to draw eyebrows together when you frown. Once the muscle is paralyzed, it cannot contract, and the frown lines gradually fade away. BOTOX Cosmetic is also effective in the treatments of crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and neck folds.

#3: How long does it last?

The actual treatment takes only a few minutes and the BOTOX Cosmetic takes effect in 3-10 days. Gradually, over 3-5 months the BOTOX Cosmetic effect will fade, and the muscle action will return. When the frown lines reappear, a simple repeat treatment is all that is necessary to maintain the desired result.

#4: Who can perform BOTOX Cosmetic injections?

Only physicians specially trained in BOTOX Cosmetic should perform the injections. Dr. Tadros has extensive training and has treated hundreds of patients.

#5: Are there any Side Effects?

There will be slight discomfort from the needle entering the skin, and a small chance of a bruise at the sight of the injection. There are no reports of damage to the eye from injections near the eye. There have been no permanent side effects from the use of BOTOX Cosmetic.

#6: Is BOTOX Cosmetic FDA approved?

Yes, it has been tested and approved by the FDA. BOTOX Cosmetic has been used since 1980 for the treatment of strabismus (lazy eye) and blepharospasm (uncontrolled eye blinking).

#7: What is Juvederm used for?

Juvederm is used for the correction of facial wrinkles, acne scars, and other soft tissue contour deformities, and for restoration of the lip border.

#8: What is Juvederm made of?

Juvederm is made of hyaluronic acid (a substance found throughout the body). It gives volume to the skin, lubricates the joints and gives the eyes their shape.

#9: How long does it last?

Juvederm can last up to 4 months in the lips and up to 8 months in other areas of the face. Touch up treatments may be needed after 2 weeks for optimal correction.

#10: Is there anesthesia involved?

Topical anesthesia is used. Either cream or ice and local injections or a nerve block may be offered when treating the lip area.

#11: What is the recovery time?

Clients usually return to activities immediately. Lip augmentations may cause swelling that last several days.

#12: How long does the procedure take?

The procedure takes anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes depending on treatment areas.

#13: Is Restylane safe?

Yes. Restylane has been used safely by dermatologists and plastic surgeons since 1996 worldwide. Because Restylane is non-animal-based and fully biocompatible, allergy testing is not required.

#14: Can Restylane be used on the face?

Restylane has been used in more than 1.5 million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles and to enhance the appearance and fullness of lips.

#15: Do the injections hurt?

Restylane is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultra fine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. The procedure is simple and convenient, and results are practically instantaneous. Dr. Tadros may anesthetize the treatment area, to optimize your comfort during the short procedure.

#16: What should clients do prior to treatment?

Restylane requires no pre-testing, but you should take a few precautions before being treated. Avoid using aspirin, non-steroid anti-inflammatory medication, St. John’s wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements prior to treatment, because they may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Also, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence.
